Among the government’s proposals for ending the teachers’ strike are:

  • Anticipation of the increase in food vouchers to R$25 per day in November 2024;
  • Application of 1/3 of the activity hour from 2025;
  • Launch of notice for public education competition in June 2024, with a call for approved teachers and professionals from 2025.
  • Studies to assess impacts, by a technical group from the Education, Administration and Finance departments, to unpack the salary table, which is currently not possible to meet, according to the State.

The government reiterated that the conditions presented will only be valid with the end of the strike and the immediate return to activities. It was also informed that the request to review the 14% by the class has already been approved by Alesc and implemented by Complementary Law nº 848/2023.

Teachers’ strike started two weeks ago

The teachers’ strike in the State completed two weeks this Tuesday (7). One of Sinte-SC’s main demands is the holding of a new public competition in the State, since, according to the category, seven out of every ten teachers are temporary, which means that the number of permanent teachers, which should be the majority, represents less 30% of the total.

Other demands from the union are the readjustment of the National Floor in the salary table, with decompression of the table – a point denied in the government’s proposal; application of working hours for all education workers and total repeal of the 14% discount applied to retirees’ payrolls.

Dismissal of temporary workers

O ND More found that at least ten temporary teachers were fired in the State after the strike began. In total, Santa Catarina has 1,500 ACTs (temporary teachers).

According to the contract, dismissal can occur when there are three consecutive absences, or five alternating, unjustified absences. Furthermore, teachers may be prohibited from participating in public examinations for a period of three years.
