Carlinhos, as he was known, told his mother that he didn’t want to change schools, so he could defend his younger classmates from bullies. The teenager was the biggest in the class and wanted to take care of his friends.

The second attack occurred on April 9. Two students allegedly jumped on Carlos’ back. When he arrived home, the teenager told the episode to his family, who recorded the teenager’s complaint on video: “When I breathe, my back hurts.”

In this second attack, Carlos was treated at the Praia Grande Central Emergency Room and released. “My son didn’t do a urine test, he didn’t do anything. My son was moaning for lack of air, not breathing”, recalled the mother.

He was then admitted to the ICU at Santa Casa de Santos, but died seven days later. He had three cardiac arrests.

Police are awaiting the results of the investigation to determine what caused the death.

He said: ‘Mom, I don’t want to leave [mudar de escola] because I’m the biggest in my class’. He said that because his friends were smaller, tiny, and he was big for his age. He said he wanted to defend his friends.
