Rain in parts of RS beats the average forecast for five months: see list of cities with the highest accumulation | Environment

The accumulated rain in cities in the Rio Grande do Sul between April 22nd and Monday (6th) it even equaled the entire average rainfall forecast for five months.

The city of Fontoura Xavierwith 778mmIt is Caxias do Sulwith 694mmappear at the top of the list in the Climatempo survey obtained by g1. The data (see list below) show that the state capital was not the region most affected by extreme rains.

According to data from Climatempo, Porto Alegre is not even on the list of the 8 cities with the highest rainfall. Despite this, the capital of Rio Grande do Sul remains paralyzed by the Guaíba floods, effects that confirm the impact of factors such as the state’s geography on the persistence of the floods.

In general, the accumulated rainfall in 15 days in Rio Grande do Sul exceeds 300 mm in many regions of the state. “But in some areas such as the mountains, Greater Porto Alegre, the Valleys, the total accumulated in this period exceeds 400 mm and in the mountains of Rio Grande do Sul, it has already rained around 700 mm in 15 days”, states Climatempo.

“In the Caxias do Sul region, for example, it rained approximately 694 mm in this 15-day period. It is as if the normal rainfall average for the months of January to May, over 5 months, had fallen in just 15 days”, he explains Climatempo.

Data from the National Institute of Meteorology indicate that the average precipitation stops at Caxias do Sul in January it is 168 mm, in February 147 mm, in March 121 mm, in April 134 mm and in May 131 mm. The sum of the averages of these 5 months is equal to 701 mm.

“In Porto Alegre, in the Jardim Botânico region, in the north of the city, Inmet recorded around 368 mm from April 22nd to May 6th, equivalent to the sum of the average rainfall for the months of March, April and May”, points out Climatempo.
