A New Home for IHGC

During the ceremony, members will have the opportunity to visit the Institute’s new headquarters, located in a room attached to the Municipal Library. This space, provided by the Municipality of Cáceres, through the Municipal Secretariat of Tourism and Culture, and represents an important milestone for the IHGC, reinforcing its essential role in preserving the social and cultural memory of Cáceres. It is worth noting the articulation made by the member of the IHGC, Wilson Kishi, together with the secretary of SMTC, Cláudio Henrique Donatoni and the sensitivity of Mayor Eliene Liberato Dias, in allocating this space for the functioning of the Institute.

History and Mission of IHGC

Founded in December 2002, IHGC was born from an interiorization project led by João Carlos Vicente Ferreira, with the support of teachers and members of the local community. Since then, the Institute has been dedicated to preserving the memory of Cáceres, maintaining a significant collection of research and contributing to the reissue of local literary works, in addition to promoting the city’s history and culture through strategic partnerships.

Challenges and Achievements

Over two decades, IHGC faced challenges in maintaining its operations, overcoming them with the voluntary dedication of its members. The institution, which initially operated in a building provided by professor Natalino Ferreira Mendes, one of the founders, was during this period a reference point for research into the cultural history of Cáceres, with the Natalino Ferreira Mendes Collection being one of its main pillars.

Notable Members of the IHGC

In addition to the new board, the IHGC has the participation of several influential personalities, including Adilson Domingos dos Reis, Pedro Paulo Pinto de Arruda, Miguel Senatore, José Carlos Carvalho, Linnet Dantas, Wilson Massahiro Kishi, Vera Maquêa, Sandro Miguel de Paula, Antonio José Ferreira da Costa, Elizabete Dutra, Maria de Lourdes Fanaia, among others, as well as Neila Barreto and Elizabeth Madureira, natural members of the IHGC, standing out as an institution of great cultural and historical relevance for the region. Speaking in memory of the institute, in addition to Professor Natalino Ferreira Mendes, we mention Luiz Emídio Dantas, late active members.

This new phase of IHGC promises to continue the tradition of preserving and promoting the rich history of Cáceres, reinforcing its role as guardian of the city’s cultural memory.
