Police officers from the Cuiabá Specialized Robbery and Theft Police Station today arrested, in the act, a man who was extorting an elderly woman and her son. The victim reported to the Civil Police that, in March of this year, the criminal invaded the residence, armed, and claimed that her son owed money to a loan shark and demanded payment under penalty of execution.

According to the report, already inside the property, the criminal wanted to take a television and the key to the 2004 model vehicle as payment for the alleged debt. However, the victim refused to deliver the goods and delayed the undue payment. The victim’s son denied that there was any loan debt.

Days later, the suspect made contact with the victim again and made new threats and demands, saying that the alleged loan shark had agreed to a payment of five thousand reais, divided into five installments. Frightened, the elderly woman then handed over R$1,000 and the criminal said he would return to receive payment for the next four installments.

In addition to going to the victim’s residence, the criminal also threatened her over the phone with charges and sent a note demanding payments. Last week, the victim went to a Civil Police station and reported the threats. On May 3, the criminal returned to look for the victim who said he would personally seek payment.

This Monday, a team of investigators from Derf Cuiabá surprised the criminal as he arrived at the victim’s residence to extort her once again. Taken to the specialized police station, he was charged and arrested for the crime of continued extortion and will be sent to a custody hearing at the Cuiabá forum.
