The rain recorded in Pernambuco on Monday night (6) and in the early hours of Tuesday (7) left streets flooded and caused problems at Metro stations, which had leaks.

The precipitation was the reason for an alert issued by the Pernambuco Water and Climate Agency (Apac), which is valid until the end of this Tuesday’s note.

According to the agency, until 6:30 am this Tuesday, São José dé da Coroa Grande, on the South Coast, was the most affected city. The accumulation in 24 hours reached 96.7 millimeters.

The list of most affected municipalities also includes Tamandaré, in the same region (82.9 mm), and Barreiros, in Mata Sul (72.6 mm).

In Greater Recife, the highest accumulation of rain was recorded in Paulista (66 mm) and Olinda (58 mm).

This Tuesday, the Recife Urban Transport and Traffic Authority (CTTU) reported that there was flooding on Rua Imperial, in the Center.

Alert

On Monday, APAC warned of moderate to heavy rain showers in regions of the state.

The warning applies to the following areas:

Greater Recife

Wood zone

Agreste.

According to the alert, Pernambuco is in the “Attention” stage.

On social media, Apac said that the meteorology indicates the “approach of a meteorological system (Eastern Wave Disturbance)”.

The Recife Civil Defense maintains a permanent duty and can be contacted by calling 0800.0813400.

The call is free and the service is available 24 hours a day. The guidance is that, if necessary, residents of high-risk locations look for safe shelters and contact the agency.

Meeting

This Tuesday, the Government Meeting on Integrated Operation Winter 2024 actions will be held.

Promoted by the Social Defense Secretariat (SDS), the event is another preventive action carried out by the State Government.

It will bring together Municipal Protection and Civil Defense coordinators from cities in the Metropolitan Region of Recife, Agreste, Zona da Mata South and North.

On the occasion, the operationalization of the crisis office activation flow will be announced, as well as there will be lectures on preparation for the rainy season with the Pernambucana Water and Climate Agency. Representatives from the State Department of Health, the Pernambuco Military Fire Department and the Integrated Center for Operations and Social Defense will also speak.

Bodies and entities from the Federal, State and Municipal spheres will be present to plan, organize and define activities related to disaster management. The objective is to strengthen the specific responsibilities of each member of the National Civil Protection and Defense System

It should begin this Monday, in a more isolated manner, intensifying in the early hours of the morning and throughout Tuesday.

“The models indicate that the system should act more in the Mata Sul and Agreste Meridional region due to its movement further to the south of the state, however, due to the level of risk and the possibility of reaching some areas further north, the warning was extended to the Coast”, he said.
