Former BBB Matteus became the target of criticism on social media for traveling to Amazonas, where he spent days with Isabellewith whom he lives a romance, amid the tragedy faced by Rio de Grande de Sul. However, the gaucho, born in the city of Alegrete, has mobilized to help flood victims and encouraged internet users to do the same.

The runner-up of the reality show used social media and the visibility he gained with the program to ask for help for the state’s population. He promoted an online fundraiser that, as of this Monday morning (6), had already raised more than R$28 million, which will go to the victims.

After the criticism, Matteus’ fans came to the ex-BBB’s defense. “Matteus is not the governor or the president, yet he did a lot for the south and continues to do so. Now, he went to see his loved one again,” said an internet user. “People are criticizing Matteus for traveling. Go to his profile and see what this guy did for his people. He is a source of pride for Rio Grande do Sul”, endorsed another.

During participation in the More you, presented by Ana Maria Braga, Matteus said that he is traveling through Amazonas and is heading to Rio de Janeiro this afternoon to fulfill professional commitments, but that he will return to Alegrete as soon as possible. “I had some commitments here in Manaus, today I’m going to Rio de Janeiro for some commitments, but soon I’m going back to Rio Grande do Sul”, he declared.

“I’m going through a turbulent time, I can’t believe what’s happening. I feel like my hands are tied,” he said to the presenter. “We try to help everyone and there’s a lot going on, it’s a lot of sadness. There are a lot of people needing to be rescued, people needing warm clothes, clothes, water, blankets… This makes me desperate. I’m divided: half happy, because people are helping and the other half are terrified by everything we are seeing”, he added.

Matteus also spoke about the help he has given through social media. “We didn’t think twice about carrying out an action to raise funds, our city is very united, our people are very united. We created a community kitchen there, we raised a fundraiser. We are making food for people”, he said.

According to data released by Civil Defense this Monday, extreme weather events have already caused 83 deaths, left 111 people missing and 276 injured. In total, 345 of the state’s 496 municipalities face problems caused by the rain, which adds up to 850,000 people affected, with more than 140,000 of these outside their homes.
