Rain gives three-day respite in flood areas | ANSELMO CUNHA/AFP/METSUL METEOROLOGY
This Monday will be the first day in a long time without rain in a large number of cities in Rio Grande do Sul. A mass of dry and hot air, which has been causing unusual heat for this time of year in Central Brazil for weeks, will take over the Rio Grande do Sul territory.
The sun predominates this Monday in the state, although accompanied by clouds. In the extreme south and on the border with Uruguay, instability with rain and lightning is expected at different points, especially in the areas of Santa Vitória do Palmar and Chuí.
The warm air mass brings an atypically hot day for May. The afternoon highs will be between 31ºC and 33ºC in Greater Porto Alegre and the valleys. In most of the interior, afternoon highs will be close to or above 30ºC.
The wind in Porto Alegre this second blows from the North quadrant, following the inflow of hot air. It is a condition that facilitates the flow of water from Guaíba to Lagoa dos Patos and the lowering of the level in the capital.
The week that begins in Rio Grande do Sul will be divided into two halves. This first half of the week will have mostly firm weather with sun in most regions and heat this Monday and Tuesday. The rain is limited to the South and parts of the West on both days.
On Wednesday, although the sun appears with clouds in part of the state, the rain advances and hits all regions throughout the day with a cold front, improving in the West and South. On Thursday, firm weather in almost all of Rio Grande do South, but cities further north in the state are expected to have rain in some spots.
On Friday, instability takes over much of the state with rain and thunderstorms across a low pressure area. On Saturday, the state still has instability in parts of Rio Grande do Sul.
