Rio Grande do Sul will have a window of good weather, but a sudden drop in temperature is worrying

The Southern Military Command reported that the weather forecast is for a window of good weather for most of the Rio Grande do Sul between this Sunday, the 5th, and next Tuesday, the 7th, which is considered “good news”. There must, however, be rains this Monday, 6th, in the extreme south of Rio Grande do Sul.

What worries the CMS, however, is the forecast of a drop in temperature in the State on Wednesday, 8th, which could worsen situations of hypothermia among people in need of rescue. Throughout Rio Grande do Sul, which is facing its worst climate disaster, there are reports of islanded areas and residents on rooftops waiting for help.

Volunteers have organized themselves on social media to offer vehicles, boats and even jet skis to carry out rescue operations in Porto Alegre and the metropolitan region. According to authorities, attention is mainly focused on for rescue and food distribution.

“Our focus now becomes distribution of food and donations”, said the military commander of the South, General Hertz Pires do Nascimento, appointed representative of the Ministry of Defense in the State.

According to the mayor of Porto Alegre, Sebastian Melo (MDB), 70% of the capital of Rio Grande do Sul is without water. The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (PSDB), classified the situation as a “war scenario”.

The press conference takes place with the presence of the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silvaministers, the presidents of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), and of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PDB-MG).
