“The CST-CLIMA Climate Change Thematic Sector Chamber, chaired by deputies Júlio Campos and Janaína Riva, will hold its 3rd Meeting, on 05/06/2024 in room 201 of the Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso”, informs the Communication.
Via consultancy, they highlight:
It will be the first meeting with the participation of the deputy and vice-president of ALMT, who has been part of the CST since November 2023. CST-Clima aims to seek solutions for Climate Justice and prevent climate change from bringing irreversible impacts to society , the environment and the economy of Mato Grosso.
The agenda will discuss issues of interest to Mato Grosso society, such as: Public Policies to combat forest fires in 2024; forwarding to legislation on Climate Education; Management of the State’s Aquifers and Springs; Public Policies for environmental monitoring and Actions to adapt cities to the climate crisis.
“We need to build public policies that make Mato Grosso a state adapted to a future of Climate Change. It is already a consensus among scientists that the Planet will experience a warming of 1.5o Celsius, now we need to understand how this can translate into droughts, floods and prepare our cities and agriculture to guarantee a future for new generations. Look at the situation of our brothers in Rio Grande do Sul, it seems distant, but we know that here we are also vulnerable to floods like those of 1976. We also need to talk about floods. mitigation to reduce emissions in the state, which unfortunately is one of the national champions in burning CO2”, says deputy Júlio Campos, creator and president of CST-Clima.
Members of CST-Clima also participated in the Ordinary Meeting, including researchers Cátia Nunes da Cunha, Carolina Joana da Silva, Ben-hur Marimon, Caiubi Kuhn, Felipe Dias, Eduardo Chilleto, Tânia Figueira, Sheila Klener, Juliana Arini, Josevana Reis da Fonseca and Colonel Aluísio Metello Jr, who will give a presentation on fighting fires in the state.
Representatives from Ibama and Sema were summoned to talk about the firefighting strategies that should be applied in 2024.
