Trucks carrying animals and food from the agroindustry of Central South Bahia, where Jacaraci is located, have a new road, with almost 20 kilometers of paving from the BA-263 junction, to the District of Irundiara. Held during a visit by Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues, on April 21st, the delivery by the Government of the State of Bahia adds to other investments in education, infrastructure and water supply. The paving, which will benefit approximately 63 thousand inhabitants, is the first stage of an even larger project, which had more than R$80 million allocated through the Bahia State Infrastructure Secretariat (SEINFRA), for paving 60 kilometers. Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues reinforced the right of the rural community to “take the avoador, the flour, the beans, the produce to sell at the fair, whether at the headquarters or in the community. The meaning of money is what impacts our lives. We can take a bus to go to a football game, a party, a service, a mass. I know what it is”explained the chief executive about what goes into the development of highway paving projects in the interior.

Rural worker Manoel Pereira goes from Jacaraci to Irundiara every day and reported that the distance has been reduced. The stretch that used to be covered in an hour was now covered in 30 minutes. “This road here has improved a lot for us, you know? I spent an hour getting to my land. But now I’m doing it in half an hour. So this road was really good, you know? It was something that helped the population a lot”, he reinforced. The second stage of the project will also include access via the BA-148 and BA-623 junctions to Condeúba. According to Saulo Pontes, superintendent director of the Bahia Transport Infrastructure Superintendence (SIT/Seinfra), the project has been a dream for decades. “Paved mesh allows for better production flow [agrícola] and the fixation of man in the countryside. It’s security, education, health for families living in agricultural centers. But this is just the first step. The second stage, God willing, in four months the governor will be here inaugurating it. This has been a dream for decades in this region,” shared the manager. The improvements should impact the lives of not only the residents of Jacaraci and Condeúba, but also those of Licínio de Almeida, Piripá, Presidente Jânio Quadros and Caculé. Young public school students from different districts of Jacaraci benefited from the state policy for rural education, which guided the delivery of three annexes of state and municipal schools in districts and towns.

Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues was in the District of Irundiara, 18 kilometers from the headquarters of Jacaraci, for the inauguration of one of them: the Colégio Estadual Zuleide Freire de Abreu. The acting Secretary of Education, Rowenna Brito, explained that the equipment is “a school contextualized with the students’ reality, giving dignity, valuing the place of these students, because we believe in the school and the place of belonging. He doesn’t need to travel from here to go to the city to study. We are reaffirming here a commitment to education, not only in the city, but in the countryside as well”, the manager emphasized the project for education in rural areas of Bahia. Regarding the impact of the investment on the lives of rural students, governor Jerônimo Rodrigues concluded, during the school’s inauguration: “If you ask these students what they want to be, you will get an answer. Even if it changes later.

I already met a girl who wants to be a truck driver, but there are people who want to be a doctor, lawyer, bricklayer, singer or singer and we are here to support them, regardless of their dream. A profession is a sacred destiny.” The works, carried out in partnership between the Department of Education (SEC) and the City Hall, included investments of approximately R$7 million from the State Government, impacting the lives of students in Jacaraci. At Colégio Estadual Zuleide Freire de Abreu alone, in the District of Irundiara, R$1.3 million were invested in the construction of classrooms, administrative rooms and rooms for teachers. In addition to a cafeteria, kitchen and laundry. 2nd year student Thaeme Ariell Souza, 16 years old, shared her first reaction upon entering the delivered structure. “When we arrived at the school, the first impression we had was: wow, what a wonderful school, it’s beautiful, everything is new. It is a step forward to have this school in our territory and we want more: more opportunities, technical courses”, said the teenager, when talking about the expectations generated by teaching in the new school unit. In another annex of the same school, in Povoado de São José, 111 students will have access to new classrooms, a video room and a cafeteria. The State’s contribution was also allocated to the municipal network, supporting the infrastructure of schools managed by the City Hall. In the town of Itumirim, 60 kilometers from the headquarters, R$2.4 million was allocated to the Antônia Guimarães Municipal School, to serve another 170 students. The school unit received support from the State in the construction of classrooms, teachers, administrative sectors, the indoor sports court and the kitchen.

As an incentive to practice sports and leisure activities, the Government of Bahia also delivered the expansion of the annex of the Clemente Dantas Brito School, in the town of Vila Paiol, where 120 students will be able to start carrying out activities on the indoor sports court. A society football field was also delivered to Colégio Municipal Anísio Teixeira. Fencing, synthetic grass, beams and reflectors were installed on the field. A thousand families in the town of Centrão will also benefit from the new Integrated Water Supply System delivered this Sunday (21), after the construction of more than 15 thousand millimeters of pipeline. The work was carried out by the Secretariat of Water Infrastructure and Sanitation (SIHS), through an agreement with the City Hall. The availability of water for the Rural Zone of Jacaraci also occurred through the delivery of 221 cisterns, of 16 thousand liters each, in the communities of Semidouro and Itumirim, which are 36 and 60 kilometers from the headquarters, respectively. The construction of the reservoirs received R$1.3 million from the State Government and will benefit family farmers and peasants with water security. Still for the Jacaraci infrastructure, Jerônimo authorized the publication of a tender notice for paving with surface treatment at the BA-263 junction, connecting Irundiara to the Vila Paiol District via another 17 kilometers of highway. R$15.6 million will be invested in the work.
