SC sends second aircraft to assist in rescuing victims after storms in RS

The second Santa Catarina Civil Police helicopter took off this Sunday morning (5) to rescue residents of Rio Grande do Sul. The aircraft was located in Chapecó, in the West, and joins the Santa Catarina team that has been operating for four days helping those affected by the floods.

Since Monday (29), Rio Grande do Sul has suffered from rain, floods and landslides. AAs of this Sunday (5), 66 deaths had been confirmed. There are still 101 people missing.

From Wednesday (1st) to Saturday (4th), teams from the Santa Catarina Military Fire Department (CBMSC) rescued 516 people and 84 animals that were stranded at risk, most of them on the roofs of houses and even in trees.

– Today [domingo] The Rio Grande do Sul government requested the help of another aircraft and we promptly sent the aircraft from Chapecó. We are together helping the people of Rio Grande do Sul in this difficult time — said the general delegate of Civil Police, Ulisses Gabriel.

Seven CBMSC task force teams, with 32 military firefighters, operate in Rio Grande do Sul. 10 4×4 vehicles, 11 boats and landslide rescue equipment were also sent. Teams from the Military Police (PM), Military Environmental Police and Civil Defense also assist in the work. A team from the PM Aviation Battalion (BAPM) was also sent to location.
