The Mathias Velho Station, in Canoas, is experiencing a war scenario this Sunday morning. Two operations, organized by volunteers and Civil Defense, take place simultaneously and carry out intense work to rescue the flood victims.
With water up to chest height, a group receives the boats bringing residents and animals that were stranded. Afterwards, another team helps to remove the victims, who arrive very emotional amidst applause. Some people need to be carried on their laps.
Then, a third group provides reception, delivering food and clothing and taking the victims to the other side of the station, where medical care is provided.
Volunteers have been mobilized since dawn. Some feed in the water while helping with the rescue.
The place need a wheelchairblankets, towels, fuel for boats, large plastic bags, for victims to take donations to shelters, as well as ready-to-eat food.
There is difficulty in getting around the region. Therefore, guidance is for people avoid going to the station and only deliver donations to volunteer groups.

Rescue at HPS de Canoas
During the early hours of the morning, the last people awaiting rescue at the Canoas Emergency Room Hospital were removed from the scene and taken to the HU and Nossa Senhora das Graças Hospital.
Since the start of the operation, still on Saturday morning, around 400 people, including patients, staff and other residents who sought shelter, were rescued.
