Petition calls for duplication of BR-163 | ReporterMT

A public hearing will be held next Thursday (09), in Guarantã do Norte (751 km from Cuiabá), to discuss the duplication of the federal highway BR-163 in the section between Sinop and the state of Pará. At the same time, a below- signed presses for the duplication of the road.

The stretch is managed by the company Via Brasil, which took over the concession of the stretch in 2022. The contract, which establishes investments of more than R$2 billion over a period of ten years, does not provide for duplication of the highway.

State deputy Diego Guimarães (Republicans) argued that it is not possible to wait for the end of the concession to discuss duplicating the section. He launched a petition so that the population can put pressure on both Via Brasil and the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) for this important demand.

“The current situation only allows us to think about duplication after the concession contract. But we cannot wait this entire period, seeing our family and friends dying every day on this true death row. Only with popular support will we be able to sensitize the authorities so that the duplication can happen”he said.
