Former president Jair Bolsonaro has promised, behind the scenes, to “camp” in Santa Catarina if the TSE revokes the mandate of senator Jorge Seif (PL-SC), a first-time ally of the former president.
The camp, however, will not be in front of barracks, as Bolsonaro supporters did after Lula’s victory. Bolsonaro promises to “camp” in Santa Catarina to campaign and elect another ally for Seif’s seat.
The task will not be that difficult for the former president. In the second round of the 2022 elections, Bolsonaro had no less than 69.27% of the valid votes in Santa Catarina, against 30.73% for Lula.
Following Bolsonaro’s expressive vote, Seif himself was elected senator that year with 1.4 million votes, 875.8 thousand more than second place, Raimundo Colombo (PSD).
Bolsonaro is optimistic
Seif’s trial at the TSE resumed on Tuesday (30/4). In an unusual maneuver, however, the Court suspended the analysis of the case and decided to reopen the collective evidence in the action against the senator.
Before the decision, Bolsonaro and his closest allies, including governors and parliamentarians, were optimistic about the chances of the TSE acquitting Seif.
