The Military Police of the Federal District (PMDF) sent an aircraft to help rescue victims in Rio Grande do Sul. The tragedy has so far left 55 dead, 74 missing, 107 injured and another 32,000 homeless. Watch:

The Fênix 1 helicopter took off at 1pm this Saturday (4/5), with three fuel stops: Uberlândia (MG), Bauru (SP) and Ponta Grossa (PR). The aircraft should arrive late this Sunday morning (5/5) in the affected regions.

The team is led by pilot Major Wilner and consists of a co-pilot and three crew members. According to the PMDF, the military has a special mission to provide the necessary assistance in search and rescue actions for homeless flood victims, especially in places hit by strong storms.

This Friday (3/5), the governor of the Federal District, Ibaneis Rocha (MDB), ordered the Fire Department (CBMDF) and Civil Defense to offer all the necessary help to the state.
The DF has already sent 14 military firefighters, two Civil Defense agents and two dogs to help rescue victims of the heavy rains that hit Rio Grande do Sul.

Professionals specializing in rescue will take four drones, a truck with supplies to last 14 days, three pickup trucks and two speedboats.

Tragedy

The rain disaster affects 300 cities in Rio Grande do Sul. The tragedy left 57 dead, 67 missing, 74 injured and another 32,000 homeless.

The storms also affect other infrastructure services. According to Civil Defense, there are 350,000 points without electricity. Classes are suspended across the state network.

Help

Several entities provide support in rescuing and welcoming victims of the tragedy. The federal government set up a task force to provide assistance to those affected.

In total, 17 ministries, in addition to the Armed Forces, the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the National Supply Company (Conab) and the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (Dnit), participate in the actions.

The Ministry of Health announced the release of R$540 million in parliamentary amendments directed to the state. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) will return to RS this Sunday (5/5).

The state governor, Eduardo Leite, stated that “monumental support” will be needed for the reconstruction of the affected regions.
