The municipality of Picos will be the beneficiary of a cataract effort. The screenings began on Friday (3) at the municipality’s Polyclinic and will continue until May 11. The surgeries will be carried out from the 19th to the 28th of this month at the Justino Luz Regional Hospital, benefiting 2,200 people. The initiative is an action of the State Government, led by the State Department of Health (Sesapi).
Ana Lígia Meira, director of the Justino Luz hospital, emphasized that they are prepared to care for all patients who go through screening, providing a better quality of life. The joint effort will cover 26 municipalities in the Guaribas Valley. Dirceu Campelo, superintendent of Medium and High Complexity at Sesapi, explained that to participate in the collective efforts, people must be on the waiting list through the state regulation system, managed by the municipal health departments.
In 2024, the Cataract Surgery Task Force will perform a total of 28,364 surgeries and 35,454 consultations, serving all 224 municipalities in the state.
The superintendent declared that all health regions in Piauí will benefit, ensuring that residents of the most remote municipalities have access to essential services.
