National Justice Inspector authorizes transfer of R$ 10 million from TJMG to help Rio Grande do Sul | Policy

The national inspector of justice, minister Luis Felipe Salomão, authorized this Saturday (4) the Court of Justice of Minas Gerais to transfer around R$ 10 million to the Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul. The donation aims to help the state in the face of damage caused by the heavy rains that hit the region.

On Friday (3), the National Council of Justice (CNJ) authorized the use of money from the Judiciary to aid Rio Grande do Sul. This money comes from fines and other amounts that are subject to the Court’s judgment.

Salomão approved the transfer request made by TJMG and determined the due accountability.

“As can be seen, there being a serious natural event that affected the state of Rio Grande do Sul and there being at the disposal of the Court of Justice of Minas Gerais a considerable amount resulting from a pecuniary fine, money that has been lying for some time without any destination, it is presented the intention of that court to collaborate with the countless needs that are revealed at all times for the population of Rio Grande do Sul is legitimate”, wrote the minister.

Rains in Rio Grande do Sul: more than 10 thousand people were rescued, but there are still stranded residents

Saturday saw mobilization in several cities in the Porto Alegre Metropolitan Region, due to the floods. There are records of floods in municipalities such as Canoas, Eldorado do Sul and Guaíba. Authorities and volunteers work with boats and watercraft to help isolated people, who waited for rescue on properties and overpasses.

Governor Eduardo Leite stated that the priority at the moment is to save lives and give dignity to those who have lost everything.

“The people who were victims of the tragedy cannot be victims of lack of assistance”, he said.

The Minister of Communications, Paulo Pimenta, explained that, in the Vale do Taquari region, the rivers dropped their level this Saturday. And the biggest concern now is with the situation in the Metropolitan Region.

“The information we have is that rescue efforts are concentrated in Canoas and Eldorado,” he said.

The number of deaths due to the storms that hit Rio Grande do Sul rose to 55 this Saturday (4) according to the bulletin released by Civil Defense. Another 7 deaths are being investigated. In addition, there are 74 missing and 107 injured.

Civil Defense has 82,500 people away from home, 13,300 of whom are in shelters and 69,200 are homeless, who receive shelter in the homes of family or friends. In total, 317 of the state’s 496 municipalities recorded some type of problem, affecting 510.5 thousand people.
