Candidate for rector of UFPI, Nadir Nogueira

The election to choose the future rector of Federal University of Piauí – UFPI, will be held on May 15th. For the first time in history, three women are running for office. The teacher Nadir do Nascimento Nogueira , PhD in Food and Nutrition, is running. Its candidate for vice-rector is Professor Edmilson Miranda, Director of the Natural Sciences Center.

Nadir leads the opposition to the current management of UFPI, led by the rector Gildásio Guedes, appointed by then president Jair Bolsonaro to the position. She says that the competitors represent the continuity of the disaster in the university’s management.

In conversation with the reporter from Portal Piauí Hoje.Com, professor Nadir Nogueira highlighted that the management’s focus is on students remaining at the institution and believes that to achieve this it is necessary to try to collaborate with Teresina City Hall and the State Public Security Secretariat. Students complain about cases of sexual harassment and assaults on campuses.

Partnerships with security agencies

Recently, students at the University Residence reported that they were left without internet after the University’s generator was unable to power the systems, amid a scheduled power outage. Cases like this highlight some of the challenges that the institution faces and which, in its opinion, can be resolved through collaborative management.

“Our students and our university community are experiencing an environment of insecurity. With harassment and any type of discrimination, we need to work on these urgent issues before they become normalized,” he said.

She adds that at the institution “there was a patrol system with security on motorcycles. This does not prevent, but intimidates. The lighting on the campus is poor and needs to be reinforced. We need to create this patrol system. Improve our camera system at these points which are more fragile, identify which are the weaknesses from the point of view of insecurity, map these points and prioritize cameras in the most vulnerable points of our community. We are going to form a partnership with the Department of Security using artificial intelligence, the intelligence that. the state has.”

Mobility

Another issue listed by the teacher and experienced daily by students is commuting to university. Currently five lines run to the institution: Universidade Circular 1 and 2 (563 and 365), Rodoviária Circular 1 and 2 (723 and 327) and Universidade (401). Those who frequent the place notice that the vehicles are constantly full. For Nadir, a partnership between UFPI and Teresina City Hall would be necessary to minimize the problem.

“The other problem that we are going to face, and which the university cannot face alone, is the mobility of our students. Because this directly involves the Municipality of Teresina. Our students face a big problem in getting to UFPI. We immediately We need to think about these policies”, he concluded.

Communication

The UFPI communications sector is responsible for exchanging information between departments, professors, students and other employees to keep them informed about the institution’s resolutions and policies. When commenting on the technological aspect of the university, she listed one of the problems faced by academic staff.

“We have to improve and advance in communication. We have a sector that we consider to be the heart of UFPI, which is the Information Technology Superintendence. Our systems, the GIS are interconnected, management is carried out by the Superintendency. This means In other words, the internet with quality so that our students can enroll, so that our researchers can present their research projects, so that postgraduate courses can also use the system, our students in general to do both research, such as teaching and extension, they all go through STI, in addition to the processes that are all computerized. But today STI is in a chaotic situation. The internet has no quality and no speed, and this directly affects the entire functioning of the university. We think from the point of view of processes that are computerized. So let’s think of superintendence as technology and modernizing its technical staff.”

University restaurant

The candidate states that the university has gone through a period of expansion, with today 50% of vacancies filled by quota students. The growth in the number of students directly implies the search for student action policies for those in a more vulnerable situation, such as the University Restaurant, which receives more than 10 thousand students daily on the Ministro Petrônio Portella campus alone, according to data collected by the Central Department of Students (DCE) at UFPI. Nadir Nogueira says that to ease the flow and speed up demand in restaurants, another RU would be created.

“I’m talking about creating another RU unit that would be the fourth here in Teresina. We currently have three here. In addition to improving the entire infrastructure of the fields outside the headquarters from the point of view of modernizing kitchens, university residences, expanding scholarships of assistance and with this we can reduce dropout rates and school retention”, he highlights.

THE ELECTIONS

Electronic ballot box and triple list

The election to choose the future rector of the Federal University of Piauí – UFPI, will be held on May 15th. For the first time in history, three women are running for office. The elected official will command the largest public education institution in the state for the next four years (2024 to 2028).

Voting will be in electronic voting machines provided by the Regional Electoral Court of Piauí – TRE/PI. Three external observers will monitor the election: a representative from OAB-PI, one from the State University of Piauí – Uespi, and one from the Federal Institute of Piauí (IFPI). The three will be nominated by their respective administrations.

The election for rector is not a right choice for the next rector of UFPI. The rectors and vice-rectors of public universities are chosen by the President of the Republic. He receives a triple list sent by Consun – University Council.

Vote weight and the campaign

Each segment of the academic community has a different weight vote: students and technical staff have a weight of 15% each, while teachers represent 70%. The order of position on the triple list is determined by the number of votes obtained in the election. The president may or may not choose the name with the most votes.
