O Former military police officer Guilherme Derrite, current Secretary of Public Security of São Paulo, has already given an interview criticizing colleagues in uniform who killed less than three people in five years of service. “It’s shameful,” he said. He later regretted the criticism, but never revealed how many people he himself killed. The May issue of the magazine Piauí he consulted his criminal certificate, presented to the Superior Electoral Court when he ran for federal deputy, got the numbers of the six investigations and asked for them to be unarchived. As a result, it was discovered that Derrite took part in interventions that resulted in ten homicides, in a period of just three years and nine months.

There is a seventh investigation – which is not included in the criminal certificate submitted to the TSE – about a police operation that ended, alone, with six dead, in addition to three military police officers arrested for torture and murder. With it, the total number of deaths rises to sixteen. The report of João Batista Jr. explains that the number does not mean that Derrite killed sixteen people, as investigations do not always identify the author of the fatal shot. But it shows that Derrite participated in police actions that resulted in this number of deaths. The current Secretary of Public Security was investigated in all seven of these investigations, but was never charged.

The operation that resulted in six deaths, however, led to the departure of Derrite da Rota, the elite troop of the São Paulo Military Police. His superiors understood that his lethality was too high. Derrite himself, in an interview with a YouTube channel in 2021, spoke about his departure from Rota. “Because I killed a lot of thiefs. The truth is this, simple. Shovel!”

The same report says that Wallace Oliveira Faria, sentenced to 102 years in prison, a sentence he is serving in the Tremembé prison, in the interior of São Paulo, gave two statements to the Public Defender’s Office of the State of São Paulo, between June and August 2019. In the statements, Faria confessed that he was part of an extermination group from Osasco, in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo, whose operations were known to Derrite. “Everything we were going to do we warned Derrite. He had total command,” he said.

The extermination group, called Eu Sou a Morte, was made up of police officers from two PM battalions in Osasco – the 42nd and 14th, according to Faria’s complaint. Derrite was a member of the 14th Battalion, from where he left to join Rota. Faria’s statements provide details and circumstances, but, as they lacked material evidence, they were not carried forward. When consulted by the magazine about the complaint, Derrite sent a note in which he “regrets that the unfounded accusations, made based on the complaint of a criminal who is currently serving a sentence, have space”.
