PT deputy inserts amendment into the Electricity Account MP to regain power from the Union in Eletrobras

247 – Federal deputy Bohn Gass (PT-RS) presented an amendment to the Provisional Measure (MP) on the electricity bill with the aim of changing the law on the privatization of Eletrobras. The proposal aims to remove the section that limits the voting capital of any shareholder of the company to 10%, which includes the Union, which holds 42% of the shares. This measure was contested by the government, which had already sued the Federal Supreme Court (STF) against the reduction of its voting power with privatization, however, the action had no outcome.

Bohn Gass argues that the Union should have greater weight in Eletrobras for strategic reasons. To Estado de S. Paulo, he argued in favor of proportionality between the number of shares and voting capital, highlighting that this is the standard in publicly traded companies.

Despite the deputy’s efforts, there is little chance of advancing the amendment in Congress. The presidents of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), and the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), have already stated that reforms such as the privatization of Eletrobras will not be reversed.
