Promoted by HRSM and Hospital de Base, training aims to reduce mortality related to water incidents

The Santa Maria Regional (HRSM) and Base (HBDF) hospitals were the stage, this Thursday (2) for the training course on Drowning Victim Management. Registration was open to the general public and, therefore, in addition to employees from the Institute of Strategic Health Management of the Federal District (IgesDF), health professionals and students in the area participated.

The training aims to provide assistance to drowning victims, with the aim of reducing the number of deaths related to water incidents in different scenarios. In total, there were around 250 participants, divided into three groups.

“The objective of the course is to give drowning victims a better chance of survival for anyone, even family members. Know how to approach this victim and take care of them until rescuers arrive. As these are health professionals, we brought them for training in the in-hospital environment, to deepen their knowledge in advanced life support”, explains the nurse from the Directorate of Education, Research and Innovation (Diep), Tuanne Alves.

Divided into theoretical and practical parts, the course offered participants guidance from basic notions to advanced in-hospital support.

“I’m a nursing student and I found the course very interesting, as it taught me a lot about cardiorespiratory arrest, the number of compressions we should do. It contributed a lot to my training and knowledge”, says student Felipe Dias.

Nursing technician Conceição Lacerda said that she really enjoys updating herself and seeking knowledge in her area of ​​expertise. “I need a lot of information, I like studying, it’s an additional training and it helps me with my CV, it only improves”, she assesses.
