Former Minas councilor arrested in the US on suspicion of drug trafficking

A former councilor from Novo Cruzeiro, in the interior of Minas Gerais, was arrested by the United States Department of Homeland Security (Homeland Security), in joint action with the Military Police, the Federal Police and Interpol, suspected of drug trafficking in that area. Wednesday (1/5). He was on the run and his name was included on the most wanted list in Minas Gerais.

According to the PM, the fugitive “enjoyed great trust among the local population when he became involved in drug trafficking in the city”. He even used official cars to commit the crime.

After the arrest warrant was issued, the former councilor fled with his wife, then a civil servant at the city hall, and their four children to Sorocaba, in São Paulo.

After monitoring PMMG intelligence, it was found that the former councilor had traveled to the United States with his wife and minor son. He was identified by police and placed on the Interpol red list by the US Judiciary.

“After inclusion on the red list, the PMMG Intelligence Directorate began interacting with Interpol, informing them of the target’s locations on American soil. Initially, the target was identified in the city of Sacramento, California and, after escaping again, he was arrested, illegally, in the city of Sandy, Utah, by Homeland Security”, informs PMMG.

Now, the deportation of the suspect may be carried out by American authorities.
