The land on which the farming couple from Goiás was murdered has an area of 167.5 hectares, the equivalent of 167 football fields. The dispute over Farm 3A allegedly motivated the suspects to kill Jânio Bonfim de Souza, 57, and Flavia Guilarducci, 50, on April 23, in the city of Cantá, 38 kilometers from the capital Boa Vista.
According to Iteraima (Institute of Land and Colonization of Roraima), the site located on the edge of Surrão has had a definitive title since February 17, 2022, with the area regularization process starting on July 23, 2021, in the name of Jânio Bonfim de Souza.
An audio obtained by Sheet revealed the suspects’ conversation with the couple minutes before the crime. One of them offers Jânio land in another region of Roraima to resolve the dispute, but the victim refuses to negotiate. At the end of the recording, which lasts almost seven minutes, it is possible to hear six shots fired at the farmers – he died on the same day, while she died seven days later.
A day earlier, the couple filed a police report with the Civil Police after being threatened by the same group, which would be led by businessman Caio de Medeiros Porto. Two people have already been arrested for alleged involvement in the crime: Genivaldo Lopes Viana, 53, and Luiz Lucas Raposo da Silva, 35. Their defense claims their innocence.
The corporation is still investigating the participation of Military Police (PM) captain Helton John da Silva de Souza, 48. The investigation also mentions Johnny de Almeida Rodrigues, responsible for purchasing the ammunition that would have been used in the murder. The suspects’ defense has not yet been located.
