Oil and gas production in Sergipe reached new milestones in March this year, revealed a report released by the Economic Information Center of the Federation of Industries of the State of Sergipe (Fies). Based on data from the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP), the report points to a notable increase in production compared to the same period last year and the previous month.

In March 2024, oil production reached a daily average of 9.1 thousand barrels, representing an increase of 2.4% compared to February 2024. However, the most significant growth was compared to March 2023, registering an increase of 36.8%.

Of the total produced in March, the majority, around 98.4%, was extracted on land, totaling just over 8,900 barrels per day. This represents a 2.6% growth compared to the previous month and an impressive 38.2% increase compared to March last year.

On the other hand, production at sea recorded an average of 141.5 barrels per day, corresponding to just 1.6% of total production. This number represents a drop of 9.6% compared to February 2024 and a retraction of 16.7% compared to March 2023.

Regarding natural gas production, March 2024 also saw a significant increase. Around 1.7 million cubic meters were produced, representing growth of 6.1% compared to the previous month and 3.8% compared to the same period last year.

Year to date, natural gas production reached approximately 5.2 million cubic meters, growing 27.6% compared to the same period in 2023. Onshore production dominated, totaling approximately 1.64 million cubic meters , while production at sea was significantly lower, totaling 73 thousand cubic meters.

With these data, Sergipe continues to stand out as an important oil and gas producing region, boosting the state’s economic and industrial development.
