Minas Gerais surpassed the mark of creating 800 thousand formal jobs. According to data from the New General Register of Employed and Unemployed People (Novo Caged), the State registered a balance of 825,121 formal jobs in the period from January 2019 to March this year. In the first three months of 2024 alone, there were 88,359 new opportunities for miners.
Minas is the state with the second largest stock of formal jobs in the country (4,859,274), second only to São Paulo, with 14,075,637 workers who have a formal contract. Rio de Janeiro came in third place, with 3,782,396. The State government attributes this positive performance to the policy adopted to attract private investments, which has already reached R$409.5 billion from 2019 to date.
Also according to data from Caged, in March alone Minas had a balance of 40,796 formal jobs, the result of 258,452 workers entering the formal market and the dismissal of another 217,656 in the period. All sectors of economic activity had a positive performance in March, with emphasis on services (creation of 17,745 jobs), followed by agriculture (8,332), commerce (5,750), industry (4,851) and civil construction (4,119).
In the first three months of this year, with the exception of commerce, which had a negative balance of 626 jobs, services, industry, construction and agriculture guaranteed the generation of 45,387 jobs.
Governor Romeu Zema highlights that the current administration is now on track to achieve 1 million formal jobs created. “My goal is to end my government and be able to say that in Minas Gerais, only those who don’t want to work don’t work,” he emphasized. According to the governor, there is a lot of work to recover the State’s credibility and guarantee a safe and friendly environment for those who want to invest.
