The City of Belo Horizonte (PBH) reported on Friday night (26/4) that it sent a letter to the Research Development Foundation (Fundep), responsible for the administration of the UPA Centro-Sul, asking for clarification on the service that was given to Mariane Silva Torres, 26 years old. The young woman died this Tuesday (23/4). She arrived at the unit with pain in her chest and legs, but the incident report attests that the first diagnosis, made more than an hour after Mariane arrived at the UPA, was an anxiety attack.

According to the municipal administration, upon sending the letter, the entity linked to the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) will have 72 hours to explain to the Municipal Health Department.

“Fundep and the Municipal Health Department have maintained an agreement since 2008 that aims at mutual cooperation to improve service in the unit, involving operational training in serving the population, through complementing the academic and professional training of students, employees teachers and technicians from UFMG”, informed PBH.

The report sought out Fundep to comment on the incident and the letter, but until the publication of this article there was no response.

Understand the case

Mariane was admitted to UPA Centro-Sul at 1:30 pm and, according to information reported to her boyfriend, who only managed to arrive later, she arrived there screaming in pain and was placed in a wheelchair. She complained of pain in her leg and chest. To the State of Minas, João Cláudio, the young woman’s boyfriend, said that, even after the medication, the pain did not stop and she was “in agony”. After her death, an examination showed the possibility of thrombosis, which would have caused a pulmonary embolism.

“When she arrived, she went through screening and, after seeing the whole scene of her screaming and in agony, they put on the green bracelet, which is low risk”, says João.

More than an hour after Mariane arrived, João, already at the scene and seeing his girlfriend’s agony, questioned the nurse, who triaged where the doctor was. In response, the health professional said that “whoever is screaming like that is not feeling pain.”

After waiting for a while longer, Mariane was seen by a doctor who confirmed that she really couldn’t feel her left leg, in addition to the pain in her right leg and chest. After the examination, the specialist concluded that the young woman was having an anxiety attack and prescribed medication. According to the Municipal Health Department, she was treated at around 2:50 pm.

“I went back to the first doctor, said that she was in a lot of pain and asked what could be done, since the medicine had not had any effect”, said João. In response, the professional said that Mariane would no longer be under his care. care.

He, however, did not find the other doctor who had supposedly taken over the care. Meanwhile, Mariane screamed and cried. “One doctor passed the responsibility on to the other. Total negligence”, says João. After a while, the young woman allegedly locked her fists “as if she were having a seizure”. An emergency room doctor attended to her and found that she had no vital signs, according to the police report.

The young woman was taken to the emergency room where resuscitation maneuvers were performed for more than an hour, but she did not survive. Death was confirmed at 6:01 pm. Subsequently, an ultrasound device detected a high amount of liquid in the young woman’s chest region.
