TRE-GO closes investigation against Marconi

Determination to block the process comes from Minister Gilmar Mendes

By order of Minister Gilmar Mendes, of the Federal Supreme Court, the Regional Electoral Court of Goiás (TRE-GO) filed an investigation against the former governor of Goiás and national president of the PSDB, Marconi Perillo. The investigation was opened following the plea bargain of businessman Joesley Batista, from JBS, to the Attorney General’s Office (PGR). With the archiving, Marconi no longer has investigations against him.

The decision to close the investigation was given on Wednesday (24/4), by minister Gilmar Mendes. According to him, continuing the process for a prolonged period without tangible results constitutes an illegal constraint. Electoral judge Alessandro Pereira Pacheco decreed the archiving.

Gilmar Mendes justified that “for almost five years, the applicant has been investigated for acts carried out, in theory, more than 14 years ago, without the Federal Police having gathered evidence that justifies the filing of the complaint”.
