Public Ministry will bring together, in Amazonas, the nucleus to combat Brazilian organized crime

The meeting will take place on May 16th and 17th, in Manaus. Representatives from Colombia and Peru, who work in the area, will participate in the meeting

The headquarters of the Amazonas Attorney General’s Office will be the stage for a Meeting of the National Group to Combat Criminal Organizations (GNCOC), which will be held in Manaus. An unprecedented meeting in the Amazon will mark the month of May, for the integration of all Brazilian authorities that combat criminal organizations in Brazil, with the purpose of debating action strategies and advancing the strengthening of the GNCOC.

The Attorney General of Amazonas (PGJ), Alberto Nascimento, who presides over the GNCOC together with the National Council of Attorneys General (CNPG), promotes the first in-person meeting with all Special Action Groups to Combat Organized Crime (GAECOs ) from the country. The meeting should also bring together attorneys general, as well as advisors and intelligence groups from the institutions.

“The GNCOC meeting will be a unique opportunity for integration. An opportunity to, together, advance in the fight against criminal groups. We have to be at the forefront of these groups”, stated Attorney General Alberto Rodrigues do Nascimento Júnior.

Invitation made to Colombia

This Friday morning (26), the Attorney General of Justice, Alberto Rodrigues do Nascimento Júnior, invited the Consul General of Colombia in Amazonas, Sandra Milena Trejos Salazar, to participate in the GNCOC. The consul paid a courtesy visit to MPAM.

Present at the meeting, the coordinator of the Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (Gaeco/AM), prosecutor Igor Starling, highlighted the importance of Colombia’s presence at the GNCOC meeting on May 16th and 17th.

“The objective of the presence would be to promote the exchange of experiences between the Colombian authorities, the action against organized crime in the triple border region with Amazonas, for a dialogue on the transit of illicit goods, factions going abroad and other topics of this nature”, reinforced prosecutor Igor Starling, who is coordinating the national meeting in Manaus.

After the invitation, consul Sandra Salazar expressed interest in participating in the technical meeting and recognized the importance of this dialogue. In the end, she requested the invitation be made official, via email, to then pass on to the Colombian government and authorities.

Peruvian authorities were also invited to participate in the GNCOC meeting.
