The batteries of eight school buses were stolen and students from public schools in Cruzeiro do Sul, in the interior of Acre, stopped going to class last Monday (29) because of the problem. The vehicles were in the Arena do Juruá courtyard, on the AC-405 highway.
The State Department of Education, Culture and Sports (SEE), in a statement, said that a police report was registered on the same day that they learned of the crime and that the batteries taken had already been replaced and the service was back to normal. (See the full note below)
The department did not say how many students were affected by the problem until the last update of this report. However, the municipal education network has more than 11,500 students in the municipal education network alone.
According to SEE, the buses were kept under armed surveillance, which did not prevent the theft. The case is being investigated by the Civil Police.
“On the same day, a police report was made, and SEE was informed of what had happened. At that time, we requested the replacement of the batteries. The following day, SEE authorized the acquisition and replacement of the batteries. The buses are already active.”
