Still not knowing whether he will have a place on the Formula 1 grid in 2025, Carlos Sainz Jr. continues to perform well this season. However, he faced difficulties in the Miami GP on Sunday and stated that, despite the obstacles, he could have won the race in the United States.
“I think I had a very good start, I was second in the second corner. But, as we say at school, Checo came like a ‘torpedo’ and almost took us out of the race. I tried to avoid contact and ended up losing some positions because of his maneuver”, commented the Spaniard.

He refers to an exaggerated attempt by Sergio Pérez to gain successive positions right at the start. The Mexican crossed the track and almost hit the two Ferrari cars and Max Verstappen, who was the race leader.
“From that moment on, I started to show a very good pace. If I could have maintained that pace for one more lap, I think I could have won the race, like Lando Norris did. We made the pit stop just one lap before the safety car and we were in front of the Lando at that time. So, it was a little frustrating for me”, he lamented.
After the start, he started a good dispute with Oscar Piastri. But he got to touch the Australian pilot. And the touch generated a punishment that made the Spaniard lose a position in the final classification, exchanging fourth for fifth place overall in the Miami GP. In the Drivers’ World Championship, he is also in fifth place.
