MET Gala 2024: Find out why Anitta, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Blake Lively, Hailey Bieber and more celebrities didn’t attend

We blinked and the most important fashion event of the year has already passed! On the evening of Monday, May 6, some of the most famous personalities in the world gathered at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, in New York, for the “MET Gala”. Despite the strong presence, fans missed figures such as Anitta, Blake Lively, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Hailey and Justin Bieber, Khloe Kardashian, Anne Hathaway, Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift. Anita

The powerful was in the USA for a tribute from Variety magazine last week, however, she made a point of returning to Brazil to participate in Madonna’s historic show, on Copacabana Beach, on Saturday (4). In conversation with hugogloss.com, Anitta clarified that she did not attend the MET Gala due to the Queen of Pop’s performance and also due to more commitments in Brazil.

In the coming days, the star is scheduled to record TV shows and interviews to promote the recently released album “Funk Generation” in the country. At the end of the month, she returns to the USA to continue promoting her work abroad. Anitta has already scheduled a performance there on the 31st on the Citi Concert Series, on the Today Show, one of the main programs in the North American mornings.

Blake Lively

Our eternal Serena van der Woodsen also had her absence much commented on, as did her husband, Ryan Reynolds. The “Gossip Girl” star has attended the MET Gala 10 times, but her absence in 2024 marked her second consecutive absence. Last year, she posted a photo showing off her baby bump, as she was still pregnant with her fourth child at the time. This time, the couple chose to stay at home with their heirs.

Rihanna

Always iconic and with breathtaking productions, Rihanna didn’t go to the ball because of the flu and chose to focus on her recovery. The news was shared by People magazine. The singer had already confirmed her participation and excited her admirers with the possibility. Wow! The rapper A$AP Rocky decided to follow his wife’s decision.

Katy Perry

Katy Perry said she would not attend the MET Gala by sharing a photo of her on the carpet, generated by artificial intelligence. After posting the fake image, she explained the reason for the absence. “I couldn’t go to the MET, I had to work”, said the diva, with an image of her in a recording studio. Currently, Katy has been dedicating herself to what should be her seventh studio album. Actor Orlando Bloom, the singer’s husband, also didn’t go.

Hailey and Justin Bieber

Hailey Bieber and her husband skipped prom amid “difficult times.” A source revealed to Entertainment Tonight that the couple did not attend because Justin is focusing on his health, after sharing a photo of himself crying. “Justin has been facing some difficulties lately. He is going through difficult times and is not feeling like his usual self.”he said.

“Hailey has done her best to support Justin, but it is upsetting for her to see him struggle. They are doing the best they can to make things work and support each other. They are committed to doing whatever it takes to make things better,” declared the informant.

Khloe Kardashian

For this year’s event, Khloe Kardashian watched the carpet at home and showed support for the family on social media. The star of “The Kardashians” shared clicks of Kim, Kendall, Kylie and Kris Jenner’s looks, while praising their choices. She also showed her support for best friend La La Anthony, who walked the iconic carpet.

Taylor Swift

One of the most anticipated names of the edition, Taylor Swift did not go to the MET Gala for the eighth consecutive year. Rumors suggested that the singer – who last attended in 2016 – would be present with her boyfriend, NFL player Travis Kelce. Taylor, however, is 100% focused on preparing for the new stage of “The Eras Tour”, which she restarts in Paris on May 9th.

Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish also did not attend with her brother, Finneas O’Connell. The artist is preparing for the release of her next album, “Hit Me Hard and Soft”, scheduled for May 17th. On the morning of the Met Gala, she even announced two listening parties for the project, in New York and Los Angeles. Billie is also rehearsing for her next tour, which will begin in September. This is the singer’s first absence since she made her debut at the event in 2021.

Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway surprised by not attending the ceremony, despite having advised co-star Nicholas Galitzine on his first Met Gala.

On the red carpet, Galitzine told Entertainment Tonight that she spoke with Hathaway earlier in the day but did not reveal the reason for her absence. “It’s my first MET, so I’m excited to be here. She gave me a little push this morning.”, admitted the actor. The artist – who participated in a total of seven Met Balls, including last year’s – asked him “to enjoy”.

Timothée Chalamet

Kylie Jenner’s appearance at the Met Gala came after a series of rumors that she was pregnant with Timothée Chalamet. Upon arriving at the location without the protagonist of “Dune” by her side, she put an end to fan speculation once and for all. The couple also did not make their debut on the famous staircases. Timothée last attended the party in 2021 – when he was chosen as co-host. This time, he did not attend because he was involved in recording the Bob Dylan biopic.

Kanye West and Bianca Censori

While Kim Kardashian steals the show every year, Kanye West hasn’t been invited to the Met Gala since 2022, when fashion editor Anna Wintour vowed never to work with him again after his anti-Semitic rants. On Monday (6), the rapper was with his wife, Bianca Censori, organizing the move in Los Angeles. Ye’s last appearance at the event was in 2019, alongside his ex-wife.
