Eight voters were arrested in the last two weeks in registry offices in Rio Grande do Norte to present false documents for electoral transferaccording to the Regional Electoral Court of RN (TRE-RN).

According to the TRE, the documents presented inconsistencies. The cases, registered as electoral crimes, began to be investigated by the Federal Police.

The most recent crime recorded took place on Thursday (25), when two voters were detained in the 46th Electoral Zone (ZE), in Ceará-Mirim, which also serves the municipalities of Pureza, Taipu and Ielmo Marinho.

At the time, the duo presented false documents for electoral transfer, and the police were called by the servers.

“Since last week, we noticed that some Pureza voters were using a property rental contract, all in the same format and many signed by the same witness”, reported the head of the 46th ZE registry office, Paulo Almeida.

This Friday morning (26), the pair underwent a custody hearing, and judge Niedja Fernandes dos Anjos e Silva granted provisional release. In addition to the voters, a pre-candidate, whose name was not revealed, was also investigated by the PF.

More prisoners in registry offices

Also this week, on Wednesday (24), employees at the registry office of the 7th Electoral Zone, in São José de Mipibu, verified that the proof of residence presented by three people to change their electoral domicile had inconsistencies.

While calling the Military Police, one of the suspects fled, but the duo who remained there admitted that they lived in the rural area of Macaíba and that they had received the proposal to change the voting city in exchange for benefits during the 2024 elections. The two were taken to the PF.

According to the head of the registry office of the 7th ZE, Ailton Rodrigues Barbosa, around 20 to 30 applications are being analyzed by the registry office suspected of fraud in the proof of residence.

“We ask you to be careful not to give in to proposals from politicians, as in most cases they are simple people, with little education, who are deceived with promises and benefits and who don’t know what could happen to them”, explained Ailton Barbosa .

“So stay alert, as everyone will face legal action in the case of electoral crimes, both voters and candidates.”

On April 16, four other people were arrested in the act, at the Goianinha electoral registry, in the 9th Electoral Zone. The accusation was the same: they presented false documents to transfer their electoral address.

Benefits are offered by pre-candidates, warns TRE

According to the TRE, in most cases, the pre-candidates involved offer benefits to voters during the electoral process so that they vote and support their candidacy.

Some of the benefits offered are: fair distribution (such as bags), money or promises of public office after being elected.

“It is important that the voter does not submit to promises and gifts offered by candidates, aiming for their vote, as this translates into an electoral crime, both for the voter and for the would-be candidate”, commented the head of the registry office of the 46th ZE, Paulo Almeida.
