Following a complaint on Fala.BR, Mapa inspection identified a clandestine cheese production network in Patos de Minas
An operation coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) with support from the Minas Gerais Agricultural Institute (IMA) and the Military Environmental Police seized around 20 tons of cheese at different stages of processing, on Tuesday (23), in Patos de Minas (MG).
The action followed a complaint registered with the Integrated Ombudsman and Information Access Platform – Fala.BR indicating the manufacture of cheeses without registration with federal, state or municipal bodies and which were being used as ingredients for the manufacture of cheese bread in Curitiba (PR).
By investigating the data on the product labels reported in the complaint, inspection teams identified two establishments in the city of Minas Gerais that acted as a network for the illegal production and sale of the product.
In the locations visited, inspectors found large quantities of cheese in unsanitary conditions and without any type of hygienic-sanitary control. Tampered federal and state inspection seal labels were also identified.
All products were seized, mischaracterized, discarded and subsequently destroyed in the Patos de Minas landfill.
