Parques Fundos de Investimento em Participações em Infraestrutura (Parques FIP) must present to the Senate’s Environment Committee (CMA) an action plan on how it will invest, over five years, the R$ 18 million in support services for visitation, revitalization and maintenance of the Chapada dos Guimarães National Park, in Mato Grosso. The request with this objective was approved yesterday by parliamentarians.
The company was the winner of a bidding process approved by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMbio) at the beginning of the month. In addition to representatives of the organization, the senators also want to hear from managers from ICMbio, the State Secretariat for the Environment of Mato Grosso and the city councils of Cuiabá and Chapada dos Guimarães (MT).
The request was presented by senator Wellington Fagundes (PL-MT). “Given the importance of this park for Brazilian geotourism, we consider it essential that the company that wins the bidding process presents an action plan”, explained the senator.
The company is also the concessionaire, among others, of the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park, in Goiás, and the Caminho do Mar Park, in São Paulo. The Senate reported that a public hearing will be scheduled.
Created in 1989, the Chapada dos Guimarães National Park is located between the municipalities of Cuiabá and Chapada dos Guimarães and has an area of 32.6 thousand hectares to ensure and protect significant samples of the Brazilian Cerrado.
