This Thursday (25), the Civil Police carried out an operation in the municipalities of Antônio Prado, Caxias do Sul, Canela, Novo Hamburgo and Porto Alegre to combat crimes of fraud and extortion carried out by criminal organizations.
In total, nine arrest warrants and twelve search and seizure warrants were served. With nine people being arrested, including one who was in the Caxias do Sul State Penitentiary. During the execution of the warrant at the penitentiary, cell phones with chips were found in the cell of those being investigated.
The investigation revealed that the arrested suspects carried out scams using cell phones. They purchased goods advertised on shopping websites using fake profiles and reporting non-existent payments. Another group in the scheme extorts service providers, threatening them.
Delegate Marco Swirski, head of the Esteio Police Station, highlighted the success of the operation in arresting those involved.
The Regional Delegate of Canoas, Cristiano Reschke, emphasized the importance of other victims of the criminal scheme contacting the Civil Police to register and report other criminal events of the group being investigated.
