One of the activities promoted was the lecture “Challenges of Coexistence with the Semiarid Region and the Climatic Conditions of the Caatinga”, given by the biologist and environmental consultant at IMA, Wictor Thomas. The event was aimed at high school students at Escola Estadual Luiz Augusto, in Delmiro Gouveia, and aimed to raise awareness among participants about the importance of the Caatinga and its unique biodiversity.
In addition to the lectures, students from the Federal University of Alagoas (Ufal) Campus Sertão participated in a 6 km trail in the Wildlife Refuge (RVS) of Morros do Craunã and Padre, a Conservation Unit that highlights the characteristics of the Caatinga in its fauna, flora and physical aspects.
Other activities carried out during the program included a cleaning effort, the reactivation of the management council and the distribution of gifts through raffles. Items such as shirts, caps, bottles, puzzles, visors and mugs were offered as prizes, aiming to encourage participation and awareness among those present.
Throughout the week, several topics were covered, such as climate change, technologies for living in the semi-arid region, hunting and conservation of the Caatinga, and Conservation Units in the region. The actions involved the participation of several rural communities, promoting discussion and awareness about the preservation of the Caatinga biome.
Caatinga Biome Week was an important initiative by IMA-AL to highlight the importance of this unique biome and promote environmental education among residents and students in the region. Through lectures, trails, joint efforts and other activities, the Institute seeks to raise awareness among the population about the need to conserve and preserve this ecosystem that is fundamental to biodiversity and environmental balance in the northeast region of Brazil.
