Regions considered major producers are expected to experience new episodes of heavy rain in the coming weeks, according to Climatempo forecast

The end of the soybean harvest in the north and northwest of Rio Grande do Sul, the largest producing areas in the State, and in Santa Catarina, should be impacted by the heavy rains forecast for the next few days, until the first fortnight of May, according to a bulletin from the Climate, the largest and most recognized meteorological consultancy and weather forecasting company in Brazil and Latin America. Other crops such as rice and corn from the second harvest will also suffer from the end of the harvest in the same regions.

“We have a forecast of new heavy rain events until at least May 20th, which should affect the north and northwest of Rio Grande do Sul, areas of greater production, and in Santa Catarina, which will harm the end of the soybean harvest. and other crops such as corn and rice”, says the meteorologist from Climatempo’s Agro vertical, Nadiara Pereira. “The rainfall will not be as intense as at the beginning of the month, but it should occur frequently in the coming weeks”, she warns.

The forecasts place even more at risk a large part of the grains that have not yet been harvested from crops in Rio Grande Sul, whose agriculture seemed to be unharmed by the weather phenomena this year, but was severely affected by the storms and floods in recent days, especially the northern half. of State.

“It draws attention to the fact that soybeans, despite being hit by the spring storms, had been showing excellent productivity, as the rains were regular in the summer, and there was an expectation of a record harvest in Rio Grande do Sul”, says Nadiara, mentioning that the end of the rice and corn harvest of the first harvest also faced serious problems due to the rains in the other producing regions of the State.

According to the meteorologist, just over 20% of the soybean crop remains to be harvested, as well as around 15% of corn and around 20% of rice. The real losses will only be recorded at the end of May.
