The wait to receive doses of the dengue vaccine in Rio Grande do Sul is about to end. On Thursday afternoon, the State Department of Health (SES) announced the expected delivery of doses of the vaccine by the Ministry of Health. However, there is still no defined date for the arrival of the doses, according to the folder.

Next Monday, technicians from the State Health Surveillance Center (Cevs) will meet with a team from the ministry’s National Immunization Program to define this and other information about the arrival of doses of the Qdenga vaccine.

Also on Thursday afternoon, state deputy Laura Sito, on her social networks, stated that the Ministry of Health’s vaccination strategy in RS will initially cover the cities of Porto Alegre, Viamão, Alvorada, Gravataí, Cachoeirinha and Glorinha. “It’s a vaccine in the arm and no standing water. Let’s scare away the mosquito”, said the deputy.

However, the cities with the highest number of confirmed cases of the disease in RS are not on the list reported by the deputy. Santa Rosa with 10,298 cases, São Leopoldo with 8,294, Novo Hamburgo with 7,503, Tenente Portela with 3,758 and Três Passos with 3,555 confirmations are the five cities with the most cases of the disease in 2024.

The city in the metropolitan region with the most cases is Canoas, in ninth place, with 1,866 confirmations, but this would also not be included initially. Of the municipalities that will receive the doses, Porto Alegre has the highest number of cases, with 995 as of Thursday afternoon.

RS with 102 deaths

On Wednesday, the SES confirmed five more deaths due to the disease, bringing the number of deaths to 102 in 2024. The victims are a 76-year-old woman living in Rolante, a 49-year-old woman living in Frederico Westphalen, and a 89-year-old woman living in Alvorada, as well as a 79-year-old man from Tapera and another 40-year-old man living in Santa Rosa.

The confirmed deaths occurred between April 3rd and 14th. All victims had comorbidities. According to the SES monitoring panel of dengue cases in 2024, RS has 85,348 confirmed cases of the disease, of which 72,072 are indigenous, which is when contagion occurred within the State.
