The Municipal Department of Education (Smed) of Porto Alegre began this Wednesday (24), the call for 300 children who will be sent for enrollment in places purchased by the municipality in schools in the private Early Childhood Education network. An agreement signed between the city hall and the Public Defender’s Office of Rio Grande do Sul (DPE/RS) serves students who were unable to find space in municipal educational institutions.

Since 2022, the municipality has made agreements with DPE/RS in relation to the demand for Early Childhood Education, which avoids the filing of lawsuits. According to the city hall, more than 1,500 students had their place guaranteed through the city’s purchase of private institutions.

“This agreement improves flows for identifying and making available places for Early Childhood Education in the Capital. We are committed to directing students to the private network if there are no vacancies in the public or partner network”, explains the Secretary of Education, José Paulo da Rosa.

According to the Coordination of Smed’s Vacancy Management Unit, criteria such as social vulnerability were evaluated and a list of students was forwarded to the secretariat by the Public Defender’s Office.
