A State Law No. 4,172, sanctioned last year, came into force in Tocantins this Wednesday, April 24th. The provision prohibits the advance collection of Motor Vehicle Property Tax (IPVA), in cases of transfer within the same municipality or within the territory of Tocantins.

Governor Wanderlei Barbosa (Republicans) himself announced the entry into force of the legislation, which directly impacts owners of vehicles licensed in the State, during a visit to the State Department of Traffic (Detran/TO) of Araguaína, which also took place this Wednesday .

“This initiative was designed to make life easier for our users, who often fail to make a sale because they are unable to make an advance payment. In this way, we will also promote the state economy and, above all, bring benefits to our population”, highlighted the manager.

It is worth noting that the change does not entail a burden on collection, since IPVA remains under the responsibility of the State Finance Secretariat (Sefaz). It is, therefore, an administrative simplification measure, also enabling a considerable improvement in the business environment.

Dr. Fines charged to the STF

The announcement of the end of advance collection of IPVA for transfers within the same municipality or within the territory of Tocantins comes a few days after lawyer Johnny Olyver, known as “Dr. Fines”, file a lawsuit with the Federal Supreme Court (STF) demanding compliance with said law.
