Passed away in 2016, aged 85, the singer Cauby Peixoto will be declared Carioca Cultural Heritage next Tuesday (30/04), through an official decree.
The ceremony will take place at 6pm, at the City Palace, in Botafogo, South Zone of the capital of Rio de Janeiro, and will be attended by Mayor Eduardo Paes.
The City Hall’s initiative, in partnership with the Rio Heritage of Humanity Institute (IRPH) and Cauby’s official fan club, will also mark the inauguration of an exhibition, in the palace’s lobby, containing pieces from the artist’s personal collection, including their traditional costumes.
Born in Niterói, in the Metropolitan Region of RJ, Cauby Peixoto was a notable name in Brazilian music from the 1950s onwards. He was known for his deep and velvety voice, as well as his extravagance in his clothes and hairstyles.
Cauby passed away on the night of May 15, 2016, in São Paulo. He was admitted to a hospital in the South Zone of the city being treated for pneumonia.
