Motorcycles represent 73.4% of traffic accident victims in Huse | F5 News

Motorcycle accidents account for a high number of patients admitted to the Sergipe Emergency Hospital (Huse), in Aracaju (SE). From January until the 20th, the hospital unit treated more than 1,800 traffic victims. Of this universe, 1,326 occurrences were related to motorcycle accidents.

This means that 73.4% of services involving traffic victims are for motorcyclists who sought care at Huse. The large volume of traumas has caused problems for the unit, which at times experiences high capacity in the orthopedics sector.

Bruno Moura, superintendent of Huse, says that, as it is a reference unit for medium and high complexity trauma treatment, the hospital receives practically all the demand from the State of Sergipe, in addition to the surrounding areas.

“Every hour, a multiple trauma patient arrives at this unit, with 90% of these multiple trauma patients being victims of traffic. And the vast majority of these accidents are motorcycle accidents”, revealed the superintendent.

Bruno recalled that trauma is one of the biggest reasons for young deaths in the world and that in Sergipe this scenario is no different. However, even victims who end up surviving may have consequences, which has a major impact on several areas, social and health.

“It’s something that has an impact not only on the public health system, because they are long-stay patients, but also on social security and even the economy, because they are young people of working age who really have some consequences”, he analyzes.

The superintendent suggests an analysis of this data and a debate to avoid accidents. “It’s a broader issue. Traffic inspections and awareness are needed to reduce this pressure that we suffer, here at Huse, every day at our doors”, concluded Bruno.
