Teachers from state schools in Santa Catarina went on strike this Tuesday (23). This morning, there are mobilizations in several regions of the State. The union that represents the category meets with the Santa Catarina government and, in principle, there is no forecast for the end of the mobilization.

In Criciúma, in the south of the state, around 60 education professionals gather in front of Cedup Abilio Paulo, on Avenida Universitária. At the unit, which serves around 2 thousand students, a special schedule was set up and all sectors continue to operate at 50% capacity.

In Florianópolis, the mobilization takes place in front of the State Institute of Education (IEE), the largest public school in the Capital. At the institution, which serves elementary and high school students, 60% of professionals joined the strike.

The expectation of the Education Workers Union of Santa Catarina (Sinte) is that secondary education at IEE will be completely paralyzed and that primary education will have reduced classes.
In Joinville, the mobilization takes place in the afternoon, starting at 2pm, at Praça da Bandeira, in the central region of the city. According to the union, at Colégio Celso Ramos, one of the largest in the city, only 30% of teachers went to the classroom in the morning. There was also a reduction in professionals at the Antônia Alapaídes Cardoso dos Santos school, in the South region.
In Blumenau, education professionals meet at Rua XV, in the central region of the city.
Why does the strike happen?
Teachers and other education professionals who work in the State demand a new public competition, unpacking of the table (requesting that there no longer be equal salaries for different career positions and demanding gains as the worker advances with their training or time in public service) and appreciation career development, in addition to more investments in education and the structure of schools.
The report contacted the State Department of Education (SED), which reported that it is still carrying out a survey of the 58 school units administered by the state government to find out how many professionals joined the strike and the impacts of the mobilization on these units.
