After death of dog Joca, a golden retriever sent to the wrong airport, Gol Linhas Aéreas suspended the sale of the service and the transportation of dogs and cats in aircraft holds for 30 days. According to a company statement, the measure affects those who take pets in the cabin. According to the company, the suspension, which lasts from Wednesday (24) until May 23, will allow the company to fully dedicate itself to completing the investigation into the golden retriever case.
Joca was 4 years old and would travel from São Paulo (Guarulhos Airport) to Sinop, in Mato Grosso, with his guardian, João Fantazzini. As it is a 47 kg and large dog, it cannot go under the seat in front and had to be shipped in a suitable box, going in the hold with the passengers’ suitcases.
Joca’s death was confirmed by a veterinarian, who reported “cardiorespiratory arrest with the cause yet to be clarified”. The video recorded by João’s mother went viral on social media and shows the owner next to the dog, now deceased, at the Guarulhos cargo terminal.

What to do if you have a trip scheduled
Customers who had already contracted the transportation of their pet through GOLLOG Animais during the period of suspension will be able to request a full refund. Anyone who purchased Dog&Cat + Espaço can also request a refund of the ticket.
Gol also offers the option of rescheduling the trip free of charge until after the end of the suspension, on May 23rd, with a deadline of December 31st of this year.
Anyone who has already traveled and will need to return during this period should contact the company to resolve the service.
