With significant production and a wide variety of fruit products, Bahia will be present at ‘Fruit Attraction’, the largest fruit fair in Latin America, which will take place from April 16 to 18, 2024 in São Paulo. In its first edition in Brazil, the event aims to bring together 150 international buyers.
Exporters will have the opportunity to discover not only fresh fruits, but also beers made with umbu, cajá and cashew nuts, coffee beans and ground coffee, chocolate candies filled with fruit, hearts of palm, cashew pastes, jellies, dehydrated fruit mixes, sweets and other products made by Bahian farming families.
The fair promises to create a favorable environment for expanding business in São Paulo, offering opportunities for networking and sharing knowledge, technologies and trends that drive the fruit and vegetable industry globally. The State Government will be represented by the Secretariats of Rural Development (SDR), Agriculture, Livestock, Irrigation, Fisheries and Aquaculture (Seagri) and Tourism (Setur-BA).
Fruit growing in Bahia
With an investment of R$4 billion in family farming, Bahia currently has a network of more than 400 agribusinesses, responsible for processing and diversifying fruits. In the fruit growing sector, the government, through the SDR and the Regional Development and Action Company (CAR), implemented improvements that range from basic production to the construction of processing units, strengthening production, adding value and access to markets.
In agribusiness, investments resulted in a record of fresh fruit exports: in 2023, R$1.2 billion were generated, mainly with grape and mango exports. Annually, the State produces around 3.5 million tons of fruit, with the possibility of two or more harvests. The producing regions have conformity certifications recognized by the most demanding markets in the world.
