The TRE-PR (Regional Electoral Court of Paraná) resumes this Wednesday (3) the trial of two actions that request the revocation of the mandate of senator Sergio Moro (União Brasil). The processes, analyzed together, point to abuse of economic power, use of slush funds and improper use of media during the 2022 pre-election campaign (follow the session live above).
If TRE-PR convicts Moro, he can still appeal the decision to the Superior Electoral Court. In December last year, the Paraná Regional Electoral Attorney’s Office issued a favorable opinion on the senator’s impeachment.
The parliamentarian’s defense denies the allegations, arguing that there was no excessive spending. Furthermore, it maintains that expenses made between November 2021 and the beginning of June 2022 should not be considered, as the pre-candidate had different political aspirations at the time.
This Monday (1st), judge Luciano Carrasco Falavinha Souza voted against the loss of Moro’s mandate. In a vote lasting more than two hours, the case rapporteur said that PL and PT did not present evidence of irregularity. Both parties are calling for impeachment for excessive spending in the 2022 pre-campaign.
