In almost a month, 360 people were arrested for crimes of violence against women in the Federal District. According to the DF Civil Police, of the arrests, 314 were in the act, 41 for compliance with the preventive arrest warrant and another 5 for temporary detention. The operation took place through the investigation of complaints, visits to victims of violence, compliance with court orders and others.
The action, organized by the Ministry of Justice between March 1st and 29th, was organized in 1,765 municipalities. In Brazil, more than 10 thousand arrests and 179 seizures of minors were carried out, in addition to 68 thousand requests for urgent protective measures. According to the ministry, the number of measures requested grew 79% compared to the same period in 2023, when 37,900 were registered.
The main crimes investigated during the operation are femicide (attempted or completed), bodily harm, failure to comply with protective measures, insults, threats, defamation, rape, kidnapping and false imprisonment and stalking.
In the Federal District, 14 firearms were seized, in addition to 473 ammunition of different calibers and 16 bladed weapons. The action also included lectures, social actions and leafleting that “aim to prevent new crimes”.
DF employees who are victims of domestic violence will have the right to a six-month leave of absence
Public servants who are victims of domestic violence in the Federal District will be entitled to a six-month leave of absence to “preserve their physical and psychological integrity” when they receive protective measures. The Complementary Law was published this Wednesday (6) in the Official Gazette and signed by the president of the Legislative Chamber, Wellington Luiz (MDB). The project had been vetoed by governor Ibaneis Rocha, but the House maintained the initiative (read more here).
