President of ANTT comes to Mato Grosso to deal with the duplication of the northern section of BR-163

The general director of the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT), Rafael Vitale Rodrigues, will come to Mato Grosso to discuss alternatives that result in the duplication of the section between Sinop and the Pará border of BR-163. He will participate in a public hearing, which will be held on May 9th, at the invitation of Congressman Diego Guimarães (Republicans), author of the request to hold the event.

This Tuesday (02.04), alongside Senator Jayme Campos (Union) and the Secretary of Economic Development, César Miranda, Diego met with the president of ANTT, in Brasília. “It was a very good hearing, we discussed the contractual feasibility of Via Brasil, which holds the concession, taking on the duplication and the director of ANTT gave us the technical notes”, highlighted Diego. He thanked Jayme for making the meeting possible and also being an advocate for duplication.

The difficulty in duplicating this section of BR-163 is that the concession contract, signed in 2022 for a period of 10 years, extendable for another two years, only covers the maintenance of the road, in addition to other works, leaving duplication aside. “This affects at least 11 municipalities in Mato Grosso. We explained that it is not possible for us to accept that this will continue like this for the next 10 years, because nowadays the highway cannot accommodate the existing movement of trucks”, pointed out the deputy.

Given the situation, Rodrigues committed to participating in the public hearing and highlighted that it is extremely important that the population of the region participate in the event, demonstrating the need and urgency of duplicating the highway.

“The North region has suffered from the large volume of vehicles that puts those traveling there at risk. We want a safe highway for everyone. Our work will only be completed when we have the duplication of BR-163 to the border with Pará. I am counting on this popular support, that the population participates in the hearing and exposes the pain and problems faced in this section”, concluded Guimarães.
