In the video, three employees work in a flood. They use equipment similar to a shovel and bucket to remove water from the road. Then, the content is dumped into another area.

Throughout the Easter holiday, it rained in most of Bahia. In the capital, the weather was unstable between Friday (29) and Sunday (31).

The publication’s caption says: “Heavy rains in Bahia and city hall acting quickly to clear public roads.”

Is not true. The video was not made in Bahia, but in South Africa — and in 2023, not this year.

Using a reverse search —a tool that tracks the origin of the image—, it was possible to find the video with the https://twitter.com/daddyhope/status/1723395052599206108. In the English narration, the unidentified author of the footage comments: “Surely this can only happen in Africa, especially in South Africa.”

Using Google Lens’ text reading feature, the term written on the back of one of the uniforms was detected as “Zikhethele”. The name refers to a company that operates in one of the terminals at the Port of Durban, in South Africa.

A November 2023 report from IOL, the African country’s news website, states that the case was confirmed by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA), the authority responsible for the port.

O Fact or Fake contacted the TNPA, which sent us a statement published at the time the registration was made. According to the report, the video was recorded during a period of intense rain in Durban and shows an accumulation of water in the region of a port terminal.

Contacted by Fact or FakeSalvador City Hall denied that the case occurred in the city:

“The image and caption do not make reference to Salvador City Hall and the incident did not occur in the city. We also did not receive any similar material that made a connection with the capital of Bahia.”
